Insurance - Ensuring the best cover
At Alexander Veterinary Centre, we want to help you provide the best possible care for your pets. The downside of this is cost, which is why we strongly recommend pet insurance.
If you are thinking of taking out insurance or changing your pet insurance provider, we believe there are a few things you should look for:
- Make sure your policy does not have a TIME LIMIT for veterinary claims. If a policy only has 12 months cover, that means your pet will have to be treated successfully within these few months as you will not be able to claim for it again.
- Beware of some policies that will only pay up to a specified amount in veterinary fees for any illness or injury. Check the MAXIMUM benefit for veterinary fees and whether this amount is reinstated yearly particularly if a claim is made.
- Check that the premium and excess does not increase with a history of claims.
- Check that your insurer will not place EXCLUSIONS AT RENEWAL on conditions that have occurred in the previous policy year.
- When you pet is 8 years old, some insurers will not renew your policy and others will only renew at their discretion.

Over the years we have dealt with Petplan who we are happy to recommend. Petplan 'covers for life' regardless of what age your four legged friend lives to, without loading premiums based on your claims history and without placing exclusions at renewal.
